Classroom Technology


Instructor Computer

To log in to the instructor station, you can use the default account by hitting enter on the keyboard. You can log in using your HCC Login credentials by selecting "Other User," located in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Please restart the computer if the default account is not shown on the screen. 

Please do not save files on the instructor station. User profiles are regularly wiped from the computer, and any saved information will be lost. 

USB ports are located on the front of the instructor's computer and the left side of the instructor station monitors. 

Classroom

AV Control System (Crestron)

The audio and projector settings, document cameras, and cameras where installed are controlled by a Crestron touch panel on or near the instructor's desk. If you are experiencing issues with the audio, projection, or control panel, please get in touch with the Technology Service Center by calling (443) 518-4444 ext. three or using this link to create a service request. Please indicate if you would like immediate assistance, and a technician will respond to the classroom to assist you. 

Displaying Video

The Home screen on the touch panel provides a list of sources available in the classroom. These sources will vary based on classroom type—a sample image below shows available sources and destinations. 

  1. Select your source
  2. Select your destination
  3. Press 'Go'  

       

   


Controlling Audio

The system volume can be adjusted by following the instructions below:

1. Press Room Speakers to play sound from a selected source. 


2. Check the volume on the computer and the video presented. In the Crestron Touch Screen, press Volume Up to increase the volume and Volume Down to decrease the volume. To mute the speakers, press Volume Mute. 


Document Camera

Document cameras are installed at the instructor station in most SET classrooms. The instructions below cover using the document camera to display content on the projection system. If you have any issues with the document camera or would like to request a document camera for your classroom, please get in touch with the Technology Service Center by calling (443) 518-4444 ext. three or using this link to create a service request. Please indicate if you would like immediate assistance, and a technician will respond to the classroom to assist you.

Using the document camera 

  1. Power on the document camera using the power button on the front of the device. 
  2. On the Crestron touch panel, select the document camera input option. 
  3. Select which device or devices you would like to display your content on. 
  4. Touch 'Go' to display content from the document camera on your selected devices. 

Laptop Cart

Unlocking the Laptop Cart

1. Input the combination. As shown, numbers must line up in the middle of the lock (highlighted in red).
2. Push up on the lock AND then pull back on the lock. You should hear a Click.
3. Remove the lock from the handle. Twist the handle clockwise.

Presentation Remote

Most SET classrooms are equipped with Kensington presentation remotes for PowerPoint presentations. The remote can navigate through PowerPoint presentation slides, control the computer mouse, and has a built-in laser pointer. 

The presentation remote can be powered on using the switch on the left side. When the remote is on, the buttons should light up slightly.

Wireless Microphone

Wireless lavaliere microphones are installed in most SET classrooms. If you are experiencing issues with a wireless microphone or would like to request one for your classroom, please get in touch with the Technology Service Center by calling (443) 518-4444 ext. three or using this link to create a service request. 

  • When using a lavaliere microphone, a good distance to place it from your mouth is one handbreadth from your chin, centered on top of your ribcage.

  • To power the lavaliere microphone on, open the belt pack by pushing the two plastic buttons on each side of the unit and opening the front panel. Push and hold the On/Off button until you see the Sennheiser logo.
  • Please ensure the batteries are secure if the microphone does not turn on.
  • Push and hold the On/Off button for two seconds to turn off the microphone. Please power the microphone off after use. 

 

  • If the microphone is on, but you cannot hear your voice projected over the room speakers, please check the mute switch on the top of the unit to ensure the device is not muted.

Webcam

Webcams are available in the rooms listed below. Webcams can be used for a virtual meeting in software such as Zoom and Canvas. Connect Your Device

You can connect your laptop or tablet using the HDMI or VGA cord provided at the instructor station. Once you have connected your device, select either the VGA or HDMI source option on the Crestron touch panel. If you need an adapter or are unsure if you can connect your device, please get in touch with the Technology Service Center by calling (443) 518-4444 ext. three or by using this link to create a service request.
