OT - Installing Windows 10 with Bootcamp

Overview

Bootcamp will allow your Mac to reboot into Windows to run Windows applications such as Microsoft Access. This is recommended for machines with 4 GB of memory where VMware Fusion would cause the whole Mac to run slow.

Steps

  1. Make sure you wrote down the Key you got from the Microsoft Windows 10 download steps at OT - Download Windows 10
  2. Get a USB flash drive that is 8 GB or larger and insert it to your PC.
    !!!!!All data on this flash drive will be erased!!!!!
  3. Open Launchpad 
  4. Search for Bootcamp at the top
  5. Click Continue
  6. Click Continue
  7. It should find the Windows install ISO you downloaded from DevTools for Teaching and the USB flash drive
    Verify you backed up any documents you want off the flash drive, then click continue

    1. It will warn you again that all data will be erased from the flash drive
    2. Wait while it copies the files, this will take some time
    3. If you see this option because you backup with Time Machine.
      Select Create a second partition for Windows, click Continue.
    4. It will default to keeping windows at 36 GB this will be 36 GB your OSX can no longer use this space and will be for Windows only until you remove Windows you can make this larger if you want or plan to do more than just class assignments in Windows.
      You will get a prompt to sign in to allow Bootcamp to perform actions, sign in to allow it
    5. Wait while it partitions the disk
    6. It will ask you to sign in again to allow it to reboot into the Windows installer, sign in.
    7. It will reboot and start the Windows install
    8. Walk through the Windows install
    9. If it asks you to connect to the internet, don't, they will force you to setup a Microsoft Account. 
      If you are wired, sign in with your @howardcc.edu if you need an account
    10. Once it sets up the account and signs in the first time, Bootcamp installer will start, run through it
    11. Reboot when Bootcamp installer is done
    12. If you need to connect to Wifi click the on the globe in the bottom left and select your wifi.
      1. When you do this something may pop up asking to finish setting up, you can click Skip for now in the bottom left
    13. Setup Windows to install updates by clicking the "Type here to search" then searching for updates.

      1. Click check for updates
  8. You can now install Office 365 following Installing Microsoft 365 on a personal device or HCC loaner laptop
  9. To reboot into OSX or to come back to windows, hold down the option key and select the operating system you want to boot.
